Not Disposable

Not Disposable published on Purchase

I was in prison and you visited me…

Prison ministry was at the root of the Methodist movement.  Early on, the Holy Club at Oxford would visit the incarcerated and pray with men on the way to the gallows.  They experienced the powerful transformative work of the Holy Spirit among those forgotten and despised by society. Today, the incarcerated population is most vulnerable to outbreaks.  Along their side are the correctional staff and the family members of the incarcerated who can no longer visit the ones they love.  Prison ministry is affected by the closure of programs as prisons go on lock down, and prisoners experience an even more profound isolation.  Kairos Prison Ministry invites volunteers to set aside time to pray for those in prison every Tuesday at 1:30pm.  Even if we cannot offer a message of hope directly to prisoners at this time, our prayers do matter as we remember that no one is disposable in the kingdom of God.

PRAY FOR:

  • Good health and protection from COVID-19 and other threats.
  • Correctional facilities to be shielded from negative outside reactions to the pandemic.
  • Good mental health for prisoners, who are isolated from their families and the outside world; for correctional officers, who are trying to do their jobs; and for the families of prisoners, who are enduring this pandemic without their loved ones by their sides.
  • Peace within prisons and between the men and women incarcerated and correctional staffs.
  • Pray for prison medical staffs, who will be on front lines of any in-prison response.
