Once I got in trouble because I was too graphic with my depiction of what Jesus experienced on the cross.  This was an overly concerned parent who felt like her teenage son was traumatized by something I read from a curriculum designed for teenagers.  It turns out that there are entire congregations of churches that refuse to sing “blood” hymns or anything that emphasizes the violence of Christ’s death.  I abhor violence as much as the next post-modern pacifist, but I really can’t get away from that whole, “the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God.”  While it is true that Wesley emphasizes several different metaphors for atonement, he never shied away from the fact that the heart of our salvation is Christ humbling himself unto death, even death on a cross.

After hearing the Kidz Bop version of “Locked Out of Heaven,” and then the Kidz Bop versions of “Thrift Shop” and “Anaconda,” this comic just flowed.
