Banjo New Year

Banjo New Year published on 4 Comments on Banjo New YearPurchase

By my counts, this is the 100th Wesley Bros Comic.  Thanks to everyone who has supported the bros along the way the past two years!  It’s been a fun ride watching the characters grow into themselves as I learn about Wesleyanism and share it with you.

Charles Wesley wrote “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus” in 1744 and published it in Hymns for the Nativity of Our Lord. It’s often used in Advent, but is a really brilliant prayer for God to fulfill our deepest longings with the presence of Christ.  The song lives in the reality of the birth of Christ to a world ruled by fear and selfishness, desiring God to perfect us by ruling our hearts.  John Wesley’s concept of Christian Perfection is not that we all be Little Miss Perfect, but that Christ’s power and grace can truly make us better today than we were yesterday because the Holy Spirit is alive and active in us.

I need that hope as I enter a new year, because without it, I’m doomed to repeat the sins of the last.  Without that hope, we all are.

Head on over to the Wesley Bros store (at this link) for a 100th Comic Special on all items.
